The Committee of Mineralogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences

 

The scientific Committee of Mineralogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) is a group of 13 elected mineralogists, petrologists, and geochemists from various Polish research centers (universities and research institutes). Traditionally in Poland, mineralogical sciences comprise geochemistry, mineralogy, and petrology.

The role of the Committee of Mineralogical Sciences is to follow developments in modern mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry in order to stimulate research in Poland in accord with the worldwide trends. The Committee prepares reports on the progress of mineralogical sciences in Poland, takes positions on subjects relevant to the development of science, economy, and social affairs within expertise of the Committee’s members.

The Committee closely collaborates with the Polish Mineralogical Society and other committees of PAS.

Major activities in the 2020-2023 term include:

  • preparation of the Report on the progress in mineralogical sciences in Poland;
  • principles and rules of Polish terminology in mineralogical sciences; in particular, preparation of the list of the Polish names of minerals;
  • involvement in the “2022 International Year of Mineralogy” announced by the International Mineralogical Association;
